ExoBlue™ custom compounding

A peptide-rich cream base that our pharmacist can personalize with prescription ingredients, prepared for one patient from a provider's prescription.

What ExoBlue™ is

ExoBlue™ is a cosmetic cream base developed by PCCA for personalized skincare compounding. For compounding, it serves as the vehicle: the cream that carries the prescription ingredients your provider orders.

The base contains GHK-Cu copper peptide, acetyl hexapeptide-8, a centella asiatica-derived peptide complex and zinc hydrolyzed hyaluronate.

It is suited to oily, normal and dry skin, is stable at room temperature, and is dispensed in an airless pump that protects it from air and light.

How we personalize it

As a 503A compounding pharmacy, we can add active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) to ExoBlue™ when a licensed provider prescribes them. The result is a single cream built for one patient: the peptide base plus the treatment your provider chooses, at the strength they choose.

  1. Your provider prescribes. The prescription names the active ingredient or ingredients, the strength of each, ExoBlue™ as the base, the quantity and directions.
  2. Our pharmacist reviews the formula. We check that each ingredient is compatible with the base, including its pH range, and confirm stability and beyond-use dating before we compound. If a combination isn't a good fit, we call the provider with alternatives.
  3. We compound it in our Arcadia laboratory. Each cream is prepared by hand in our nonsterile compounding rooms, following USP <795>, and USP <800> for hazardous ingredients.
  4. We call you, then ship it. We confirm pricing before preparing anything, then ship anywhere in California. Local pickup in Arcadia is available by calling ahead.

What can be added

ExoBlue™ is designed to carry a range of prescription actives. Established pairings include tretinoin, prepared with a specific wetting agent so it disperses evenly, and estriol, on its own or combined with other actives such as tretinoin or a peptide. Many of the actives in our dermatology formulations are candidates when compatibility and stability data support the combination. Ask our pharmacist before prescribing a new combination and we'll confirm what's possible.

For prescribers

Write ExoBlue™ as the base, with each active and its strength. For example:

Example:
[Active ingredient] [strength]% in ExoBlue™ cream base
Dispense: 30 g airless pump
Sig: Apply a thin layer to the affected area as directed

Send it by e-prescription, fax or phone. If your EMR has no compound option, choose the closest product and spell out the full formula in Notes to Pharmacy. See our e-prescribing guide.

Approved prescribers can find our ExoBlue™ prescriber guide, with formula ideas and a fillable order form, in the prescriber portal.

Questions

ExoBlue™ compounding FAQ

Don't see your question? Call our pharmacist.

Get in touch
Do I need a prescription?

Yes. When we add an active ingredient to ExoBlue™, the cream becomes a compounded medication prepared for one patient, and it requires a prescription from a licensed healthcare provider.

Is a personalized ExoBlue™ cream FDA approved?

No. Compounded medications are not FDA approved. They are prepared by licensed pharmacists for an individual patient from a valid prescription, following state regulations and applicable USP standards.

Which ingredients can be added?

It depends on compatibility and stability with the base. Tretinoin and estriol are established pairings. Ask our pharmacist about a specific combination before it's prescribed and we'll confirm what's possible.

How much does it cost? Do you take insurance?

Price depends on the ingredients, strengths and quantity, so we quote every prescription before we prepare it. EpitomeRx is a cash-pay pharmacy, meaning we do not bill insurance. We can provide a universal claim form for possible insurance reimbursement. HSA and FSA cards can be used like any other card over the phone; check with your plan.

How should I store it?

At room temperature, away from heat. Don't freeze it. The airless pump protects the cream from air and light. Use it by the beyond-use date on your label.

Can I get it shipped?

Yes. We ship anywhere in California. Local pickup in Arcadia is available by calling ahead.
